OBJECTIVES OF THE SUMMIT:
The Pan Ogoni Youth Summit 2022 is borne out of a deep reflections, concern and diligent studies on the massive economic losses due to capital flight, deplorable state of critical infrastructure, widening security web within Ogoniland and neighboring Niger Delta Communities. For instance, the economic opportunities and threats that would be associated of the imminent linkage of the Bonny-Bodo Bridge and the Onne- Port Harcourt Economic Corridors, to offshore west Africa, with the Bonny Deep Sea Port, NLNG Train 7 underway and the Shell Bonny Crude Oil Terminal, Exxon Mobil LPG Terminal and other stakeholders’ investment portfolio amounting to over $US 30, Billion on the ancient Island, calls for strategic security planning and intelligence bracing.
Moreover, the huge man-hour wastage between the Port Harcourt – Trans Amadi Oil and Gas Base, and the Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone, which is the epicenter of the West African Oil and Gas Industry because of the sordid situation of the East-West Road Section III which also links the Eket Corridor and Calabar Port is another issue of chief concern.
The security, maintenance and sustenance of this strategic economic corridor requires the collaboration of all stakeholders for sustainable development. Preparing and equipping young people, enlightening government officials and the private sectors to get involved in providing economic security and thereby providing new livelihood models that will help in safeguarding stakeholders assets in the Niger Delta is imperative and urgent.
The summit also shall be a veritable avenue to touch on the sensitive issues surrounding the resumption of oil and gas production and exploration in Ogoniland with a view to resolving the three decades of stalemate between the Ogoni people, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) and other JV Partners.
The highpoint of the event would be the awards ceremony to well deserving individuals and organizations within the society, Government and the Petroleum industry. Who have immensely contributed to the peace and development of Ogoniland, Niger Delta and Nigeria.
SPEAKERS
Discussions will be led by reputable private sector and petroleum industry experts and seasoned politicians, legal luminaries and other practitioners in entrepreneurship and national security. The Governor of Rivers State – Chief (Barr.) Nyesom Wike, CON, is expected to deliver the welcome address while Prof. Yemi Osinbajo -Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria is the Special Guest of Honour.
Senator Margaret Chuba Okadigbo, Chairman Board and Management, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd., has been nominated to chair the Summit, whilst Obong Okon Umana – Managing Director of the Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, has been chosen as the Vice Chairman.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This two-day summit is aimed at gathering over 500 youth leaders and executives who are young business owners, entrepreneurs, Agripreneurs, technocrats and academics from across Ogoniland and the Niger Delta. It will also have in attendance delegates from the Ogoni community in the Diaspora.
