By November 26, 2023No Comments

We the members of Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF), convey for a national congress in Bori, Khana Local Government Area, on the 25th day of November, 2023, to address matters bordering on the purported suspension of our President General, Chief (Dr) Legborsi Yamaabana and other critical sundry issues. The following key points were resolved at the congress:

  1. POWER OF THE CONGRESS:

In line with the combine provisions of article 7 section (1) & (2) of the OYF constitution; as stated below, respectively; “The national congress is the final decision-making body of the Ogoni Youth Federation. It shall deliberate and take action on all matters concerning Ogoni people and youths. The national congress of the federation shall be presided over by the President general or whosoever in the NEC the president general delegate”

  1. CLARIFICATION AND RECENT EVENT

The congress disassociates itself from the purported suspension of the president general, declaring such actions illegal and alien to the OYF constitution. Credible intelligence reveals that the four out of the twelve members of the National Executive Council were procured with a huge sum by HYPREP to act as agents of divide and rule. The congress notes that, this is not the first instance these same individuals has acted against the collective interest of Ogoni Youths; similar tactics were deployed in 2021 during the leadership of Dr Marvin Dekil as HYPREP coordinator.

  1. DISCIPLINARY ACTION AGAINST ERRING MEMBERS

The congress invoked article 10 (1) & (2) of the Constitution of OYF to suspend and disqualify erring members indefinitely, namely:

  1. Emmanuel Bie;
  2. Mtormabari Mesua;
  • Kingsley Dimkpa;
  1. Lene Kingsley Lekue.

For financial inducement, bribery, insubordination and gross misconduct. This serves as a resolute message to the public and organizations that these individuals are no longer members of Ogoni Youths Federation. Any engagement with them is not only discouraged but will be done at one’s own peril.

  1. PASSING OF VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON THE PRESIDENT GENERAL

The congress haven investigated the allegation against the president general of OYF, Chief (Dr) Legborsi Yamaabana, has discovered that these accusations were not only false and baseless but a deliberate ploy by HYPREP to weaken the unity of Ogoni youths. The congress hereby unequivocally passes a vote of confidence on the president general and extends his tenure by 24 months.

  1. WARNING TO HYPREP AND ITS AGENTS

The congress issues stern warning to HYPREP and its agents to cease their divide and rule tactics, emphasizing that this will not deter Ogoni youths from being united in the pursuit of justice. Congress further advises the leadership of HYPREP and their agents to desist from actions that are capable of throwing Ogoni Nation into another round of avoidable chaos.

  1. SECURITY CONCERNS

The congress observes increase in threats to the President general since the peaceful protest. It warns that any harm to president general, Chief (Dr) Legborsi Yamaabana, Ogoni youths shall hold HYPREP and its current leadership responsible.

  1. REQUEST TO THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENT

The congress urges the Honorable Minister of Environment to intervene in the ongoing debacle between Ogoni Youths and the HYPREP Project Coordinator with a view of resolving the issues and ensure corrective measures are implemented to address the wrongs and restore justice to avoid imminent protest at the Federal Ministry of Environment, Abuja.
