Rivers State Youth Leaders Coalition, an amalgamation of all indigenous youth leaders and youth groups in the 23 – LGAs of Rivers State met with the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Okon O. Effiong and members of his management team to collectively discussed and evolve strategies that will assist the police in ensuring that Rivers State remains peaceful before, during and after the 2023 general elections.
After careful and exhaustive deliberation, it was resolved as follows:
1. Rivers Youth leaders resolved that the Commissioner of Police should convoke a meeting between the Governor of Rivers State and the Rivers State Youth Leaders Coalition on or before the end of January, 2023 to discuss the 2023 polls and other sundry issues with the governor.
2. Rivers Youths leaders urge INEC, Political parties, political stakeholders and politicians to play by the rules before, during and after the 2023 elections in order not to throw Rivers State into another round of avoidable violence as experienced in the 2019 elections.
3. Rivers youths leaders passed a Vote of Confidence on the Rivers State Commissioner of Police – CP Okon Effiong and pledge to assist the police in whatever capacity that may be required in ensuring a free and safe Rivers State during and after the 2023 polls.
4. Rivers Youth Leaders vowed to partner and assist the police in whatever capacity that may be required to ensure a crime-free State.
