The Ogoni Environment Watch takes serious note of the alleged state sponsored attacks and attempt on the life of President Ogoni Youths Federation, Comrade-Legborsi Sunday Yamaabana over issues related to peaceful protest.
For the avoidance of doubt and not wanting to go into detail, we are not unaware of the fundamental issues of rights of citizens in a constitutional democracy same as ours, to, within the armbit of the law peacefully demand or protest on whatever is of right and obligation world over.
It is worrisome to learn that a state government who came into power by “assumed force of Rivers people’s” will and legality, now turn around to deploy apparatus of state in such a brazen and oppressive manner on citizens, all in a bid to silence voices of descent and purportedly protecting “business interests”.
Let it be known that the people of Ogoni and indeed the civil society community know those to hold accountable should any danger happen to Comrade-Legborsi Sunday Yamaabana, and in this case it will be the Rivers State government and Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
